Note: The Veragua Park and the Pacuare river are far apart  from each other so we don’t recommend splitting groups due to the transportation logistics, nevertheless, groups could split to do the Veragua park and the Pacuare river, but Veragua charges $20.00 extra per person to provide the transportation from/to the hotel in Limon.

Beach

Some towns on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica are famous not because the beaches themselves but due to the cultural part. Cahuita and Puerto Viejo coastal towns are located about one hour Southwards from Limon city. The Cahuita National Park is a good place to do some walking, see some wildlife like monkies, sloths, snakes, etc. and spend some time on the beach (always having in mind the rip currents). Almost all beaches on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica are red-flagged for rip currents.

The best day to visit this area is after church on Sunday where you can have lunch.

Cahuita National Park entrance fee: It is a donation. $5,00 per person will do it.

Aerial Tram at Veragua Park

Nature Trails: Choose an easy walk on the Trail of the Giants along the riverbank or a challenging path to the 60-foot cascading Puma Waterfall. (Note: Guests choosing to visit the waterfall must be able to take approximately 175 steps up and approximately 175 steps down a nature walk. Guests unable or unwilling to take the steps can enjoy the Trail of the Giants, which is on an even surface.)

Reptile Exhibit: Walk through a live reptile exhibit, learning about snakes and lizards.

Frog Exhibit: Enjoy an educational frog exhibit, where you’ll see frogs in environments replicating their habitats. Marvel at large bullfrogs, red-eye tree frogs, and fascinating, tiny frogs smaller than a fingernail. Some frogs enjoy the day while others prefer nighttime.

Butterfly Garden: Explore one of Costa Rica’s largest Butterfly Gardens, enchanted by hundreds of colorful butterflies flying around you. Expand your knowledge at the Butterfly Laboratory.

Foundation for Rainforest Research: Gain insight into the reserve’s conservation efforts in a presentation by a biologist. White-water Rafting

Raft one of the top 10 whitewater rivers in the world: the renowned Pacuare. This unforgettable Costa Rica one-day trip will be the highlight of your time here!

The Pacuare River is famous for its magnificent beauty and world-class whitewater. Our one-day trip takes you down 19 miles (29 km) of Class 3 & 4 rapids through remote rainforest past cascading waterfalls and exotic wildlife.

On the way to the Pacuare River, you will stop for breakfast. When you arrive at the rafting put-in, you will meet your certified rafting guides and get outfitted with all necessary equipment. They will give you a comprehensive rafting safety talk and instruct you on paddling basics.

Then, you and your group will begin to paddle deep into the heart of one of Costa Rica’s most impressive primary rainforests. It’s an adrenaline-packed day running the Pacuare’s thrilling rapids. Along the way, you will pass our National Geographic award-winning ecolodge, where guests stay in the rainforest on our overnight and multi-day adventure trips. A picnic lunch, prepared by your guides, will be served at one of the beautiful riverside beaches. When you reach the take-out point, you will go to a place where you can shower and change clothes and then return to your hotel.
